Energy Working Group / Renewable Heat
Woodstock Transition’s Energy Working Group now has available a detailed report entitled “Woodstock Renewable Heat”. This document poses the questions;
Can a networked energy system reduce and stabilize long-term heating cost?
Is it a more viable and effective pathway to transition from fossil fuel combustion to renewable thermal energy than piecemeal single home conversions, knowing that the decision process in single home conversions is time consuming and challenging?
The link below gives access to a comprehensive response to these questions.

Energy Working Group April 2018 Report
The Energy Working Group has made progress in April to access grants that support renewable energy projects in the town of Woodstock. See the Energy Working Group April report below.
Energy Group’s Proposed Project
With increased interest in expanding the Woodstock waste water system to the town’s hamlet western region (Bearsville Flats) comes a vision for a neighborhood energy project serving the homes and businesses in this region with renewable heating and hot water.
The opportunity is to begin a feasibility study of co-developing the two projects simultaneously, with cost savings for both. Grant funding of the energy system is possible. A result for those who live and work in the western hamlet region will be lower heating costs over time, with little to no energy price swings that’s typical with oil and propane supplies. The waste water system will void the need to maintain and periodically replace septic fields. The projects combined will be beneficial for the neighborhood.
2017 Winter Series Final Event: Community Choice Aggregation – Taking Back Power Over Energy Development
On Thursday, April 20th, Citizens for Local Power will present plans to create New York’s most ambitious Community Choice Aggregation project, here in Ulster. The initiative would reduce carbon emissions, develop renewable projects, save money, and keep our energy dollars local. Check our calendar for event details.
