In 2012, Woodstock, NY became the 115th official Transition Town in the US. Our little town is part of the Transition Movement that’s currently active in over two thousand different places on this planet!
The Transition Movement is comprised of vibrant, grassroots community initiatives that seek to build community resilience in response to such challenges as resource depletion, climate change and economic instability.
After 15 months of Transition-themed informational gatherings and film screenings, Woodstock Transition hosted a community festival on September 22nd, 2012. Town members gathered under the tent for a dynamic community forum, during which working groups were convened. Currently, some working groups are meeting regularly, while others are still getting organized.
We are working to create supporting structures to facilitate the growth of the Transition Movement in Woodstock. To that end, we have drafted proposed Working Principles that members will agree to use when acting under the umbrella of Woodstock Transition. We expect our Working Principles to develop and evolve, and we welcome your ideas and contributions.
We are in the early stages of our development, and there is plenty to do. The journey is as important as the destination, and we are enjoying every step along the way. We hope you join us in creating a more vibrant, resilient, and sustainable Woodstock!
